Here is a quick guide to orienteering events;

Local (C5) – these events offer a limited range of courses, always including something for beginners. These events are usually aimed at newcomers.

District (C4) – these events offer a full range of colour coded courses which are suitable for everyone from beginners to experienced orienteers.

Regional (C3) – there will be limited colour coded courses at these events, because the main courses are arranged by gender and age group. You can collect points at these events which go towards a National Ranking Scheme.

National (C2) – these events should only be held on the best orienteering terrain and attract competitors from far and wide. Courses are the same as at regional events and again you score points towards the Rankings Scheme.

Championship (C1) – these events include the British Championships & JK Festival which are  held on the best terrain and attracting the best competitors.

City Races – a new and exciting orienteering discipline that uses slightly different maps at even higher detail of the “Urban Jungle”.
