LOG Summer & Winter Series 2008
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I need to be a member of the club to take part?
No, anyone is free to come along and join in.
2. Do I need any previous experience to run a course?
Not at all, we have 3 courses on offer: Short for beginners
or the long course is ideal for runners
wanting a longer run without too much navigation. A technical
course for experienced orienteers.
3. Can I bring along
the family?
Yes please do, more the merrier!
4. Even the dog?
Even the dog is welcome however in some areas you may have to
keep them on a lead.
5. What do I need to bring along with me?
Suitable clothing for a walk (or run) around woods and
parkland. We try and avoid areas that are
too rough or muddy, but we can't control the weather on the
day sadly. If you are thinking of doing
a harder course a compass will be a big help.
6. How much is this going to cost me?
Entry fee is £1.50 per map and includes SI dibber hire.
7. What do I get for this?
At most events you get a pre marked & bagged map although not
at all of them, some you will have to
mark you own map (pens supplied) All of our events use Sport
Ident electronic punching, hire of an SI dibber is included in the entry fee.
8. Some of the events are quite a distance apart, can I
get a lift?
We try to car share as much as possible. If you join our
Yahoo Group you can discuss events &
arrange lifts with other members. We have just started a
database for lift arrangements, Click HERE
for
more details, you may need to join the Yahoo Group to view
the database, this is a free service.
9. Do you meet after the event?
We always meet in a local pub after the event, you can
discuss you run, find out where you made
mistakes and find out from others which routes they took.
This is a great way to meet the group &
learn from more experienced orienteers.
10. Where can I get more information?
Please feel free to contact the series co-ordinator, Sean
Harrington, on 01522 791344
