The 2018 LOG Spring Series culminated on 3rd May, with the sixth and final event at Witham St Hugh’s, nr Lincoln. This event also included the Lincolnshire Challenge Shield, the annual competition between LOG and HALO, with the now traditional format of a 2.3k Prologue followed by a mass start 2.3k Chase, with best scores from either race contributing to the runner’s final Spring Series tally. The Lincolnshire Challenge Shield was regained by LOG, after losing it on away turf last year, in convincing fashion by 1356pts to 1072pts. Top performances on the night included Ben Mather, Liam Harrington and Paul Murgatroyd, who each contributed the maximum 100 points possible to the team tally. Another 14 runners also pitched in to make it a successful evening for the home club and hopefully LOG will be able to defend it in style next year up in HALO-land! Results from the night are available here.
As to the final results in the Spring series, it was a tight call at the top of the Short course, with sister Isabel May just pipping her younger brother, Michael, to the title by a single point. The Long course saw Tanya Taylor continue her usual dominance of this series, winning out comfortably over Holly Haywood, in second, by 18 points, with veteran Nick Lyons, just 3 points back in third. The Technical series was a one sided affair, with Liam Harrington going unbeaten all spring and cruising to victory, with David Jolly and Kevin Swinbourne tied together, 8 points back, but David taking second overall on tie-break ruling. The final series table is available here.
